“Moving Up, In and Out”

We get this question frequently, “Why do you call yourselves The Movement Church?” The answer is pretty simple, “Because we believe that God has called us to move “up,” “in” and “out.” Here’s how we explain that:

1. Moving Up: Loving God – When Jesus was asked what the Greatest Commandment was in all of Scripture, He replied,

Matt. 22:37-40 (NIV) Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

“Moving Up” describes our need to connect with God authentically. The Bible commands us to love Him with all of our heart, soul and mind.

2. Moving In: Loving People – The second part of the Greatest Commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourself.” “Moving In” describes how we express the love of Christ to the people around us. Everyone has a circle of influence or an “oikos,” (The Greek word for house). We are to love these individuals as Christ loves them, and as He expressed in the Golden Rule:

Matt. 7:12 (NIV) “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

“Moving In” is the phrase we use to communicate our desire to connect with each other relationally and lovingly.

3. Moving Out: Reaching The World – The Great Commission of Jesus Christ gives us our marching orders.

Matt. 28:19-20 (NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.”

Each follower of King Jesus has been assigned the responsibility of making disciples “of all nations,” baptizing new believers, and teaching them to obey Him.

“Moving Out” is the phrase we sue to communicate our mission to love the world unconditionally.

We believe that a great commitment to the Great Commandment and The Great Commission will grow a great church. That is why we are moving “up,” “in” and “out.
