“Something new, risky, outside the box, fun, unbound, crazy, unexpected, life-giving, fresh, adventurous, and blessed. All the stuff that keeps a person up late.”
These are the words that I wrote in my journal during a time of prayer and soul searching. They defined what was missing in my life and what was greatly desired. These words of Jesus Christ challenged me to launch out on a new journey:
Matthew 11:28-30 (Message) “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Then The Movement was born. It emerged from a dream to rescue those who are far away from God and restore those who were once near. We want to deliver the weary, used up, burnt out saints and clothe them with the glory of Christ. Once this happens, we dream of harnessing their new freedom in Christ and equipping them to build bridges to others who need deliverance from the same condition. The Movement is a dream to experience authentic discipleship in the way that Jesus demonstrated in the New Testament. In essence, it’s about every heart’s desire to experience “the unforced rhythms of grace.”
“Unforced” is better than complicated. It fits with how we desperately desire to live our lives, simply because God created this yearning within. “Rhythms” are better than negative vibes, because we long to be in a community of people who affirm our God given purpose. “Grace” is better than guilt, because it’s the only thing that keeps us motivated to fall back upon the One who loves us so deeply.
